Aviation/Flight

Students are introduced to the world of flight and aviation. Physical laws of flight and plane design are studied. Ground school operations, flight plans and flying techniques on a flight simulator are covered.

Students work their way through text reading, vocabulary definition and written question response. Students experience flying techniques through Microsoft Flight Simulator. Ground school operations and flight planning are demonstrated by recording an accurate flight plan from San Diego Lindbergh Field to John Wayne Airport in Newport Beach. This includes all calculations to provide an accurate compass heading and speed, taking into account the current weather before flying. The challenge exercise is the actual flight to Newport Beach, land, and return to San Diego.

Resources include: Pentium computer, yoke and rudder pedals, Microsoft's Flight Simulator software, Flight Link software, Private Pilot Manual, Jefferson, Flight Simulator Strategy Guide, Microsoft, L.A. sectional navigator map, In-flight personal calculator.
