CNC Mill
The student is introduced to the manufacturing process of computer
numerical control milling. The CAD, CAM, CNC process is studied and experienced as the
student brings a drawing file into a CNC program and produces a part. Terminology and
history of automated machinery are studied through text readings and video presentations.
Vocabulary definition, as well as written response to questions, reinforce the readings
and video presentations. Student load sample .nc programs, verify them in a computer
simulation, and cut the part in machineable wax. Challenge exercises have students design
original parts, program the .nc code into the CNC program and machine the part on the
mill. Automatic CAD/CAM process is the final challenge exercise in this module.
