Aerodynamics

aero.jpg

Students are introduced to the relation between form design and fluids in motion. Students experience the results of aerodynamic design by building prototype air foils and testing for efficiency in a wind tunnel.

Students learn the specific language of aerodynamics through vocabulary definition, reading, and written response to questions in the curriculum manual. Students test shapes for lift and drag characteristics in a wind tunnel. Analysis of data with these shapes allows the students to design an efficient airfoil prototype.

Resources include: Wind tunnel, wood block shapes, balsa wood - monokote, The Ultimate Paper Airplane, Kline.

Career paths include: Aerospace Engineer, Automotive Engineer.
