Behavioral Expectations

In an effort to make the classroom a pleasant learning environment, I expect that all students behave according to the following guidelines:

EXPECTATIONS FOR CLASSROOM CONDUCT

Each student is expected to remember a very important word to be a successful student in my class – R.E.S.P.E.C.T. This also includes attitude and creative language toward one another.

Responsibility lies with the student. They will be required to turn in all assignments on the due date and if you are absent, be sure to see me to make other arrangements for turning in work. If you are absent on the day of a test, quiz or any other deadline activity you will be expected upon returning to class making up that activity on that day. Also, students are liable for attendance, tardiness and behavior in class.

Enthusiasm, participation, extra effort, and a positive attitude will be rewarded with and outstanding citizenship grade.

Support the learning environment by not talking at inappropriate times, listening when others are speaking, and raising your hand to speak. Also, remember the bell does not dismiss; I do.

Proper Planning prevents poor performance. In other words, be prepared with the required materials, books, pens and pencils every day. Use the restroom and get drinks at the designated breaks.

Eating, drinking, chewing gum, wearing hats and personal grooming are not classroom activities. Use the restroom and get drinks at the designated breaks.

Consequences should be expected for lake of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. and will include parent contact, referrals and possible detention.

Tardiness and unexcused absences will not be tolerated. Consequences follow the school’s policy.

Academic Expectations

Each student is required to bring to class on a daily basis the following materials:

Notebook (separate from other classes)

Ruled paper

pen

pencil

Each student is required to keep a notebook separate from other classes. Your notebook must be kept neat and updated throughout the semester. It may be checked at any time for completeness. DO NOT THROW OUT ANY ASSIGNMENTS COMPLETED IN THIS CLASS. The only way you can prove that you have completed an assignment and that I have graded it is to have it on file in your notebook. Additionally, you might need earlier work for reference and review at year-end exams.

Homework will be given periodically. Homework is expected to be turned in on the due date unless you are absent then it will be due when you return back to class. Late assignments can result in a lower grade.

Each student is responsible for knowing the homework assignment before leaving class. Students must listen to instructions. Absences do not excuse you from homework. Make a buddy system to network with others to find out about assigned homework or missed class assignments.

ATTENDANCE IS CRUCIAL TO YOUR SUCCESS IN THIS CLASS. You will not receive grades for work not done because of absences or tardy problems. Perfect attendance in class earns a student a higher grade overall. Tardies and other absences can result in a lower grade. Students who are absent for a legitimate reason are given appropriate time to complete work; however, there might be other in class activities that may not be made up.

Tests missed are made up on the day you return back to class. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Homework is due on the due date. One day grace period for VERY special circumstances, but I will determine those circumstances. Late work will NOT be accepted if the assignment ha been graded and returned to the rest of the students.

All work turned in for evaluation must be neat and legible.

Grading Policy

Most grading will be done on a point system with points assigned to a task. The student’s grade will be determined by the accumulation of points earned divided by the total points available during a grading period. Points continue to accumulate throughout the entire semester. The resulting percentage determines the student’s grade.

Attendance/Tardy Policy

It is absolutely essential that students attend class every day and arrive on time ready to learn. With frequent tardies or absences, students miss valuable interaction and participation. If a student is tardy without an excused reason and a quiz or test has begun, the student will receive a zero. TARDIES AND EXCESSIVE ABSENCES WILL IMPACT GRADES.

Class Participation

Students are expected to participate in class. This may include such activities as discussion input, maintaining the environment, helping the teacher and working together with your class- mates. Class participation can be a terminating factor whether your grade goes up or down.
