CALIFORNIA
STATE STANDARDS: The following State of California content standards for Grade
10: World History, Culture and Geography, will be dealt with, in part:
10.1 Students relate the moral and ethical principles in ancient Greek
and Roman philosophy, in Judaism, and in Christianity to the development of
Western political thought.

the similarities and differences in Judeo-Christian and Greco-Roman views
of law, reason and faith, and duties of the individual.

UNIT INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES:

To discuss the historical context of the Protestant Reformation
of the sixteenth century.

To describe the causes of the schism in western European
Christianity known as the Protestant
Reformation.

To explain Protestantism’s impact on European and Western
society.

To describe the reform ideas and contributions of major Protestant
reformers and divisions: e.g., Lutheranism,
Calvinism, Anglicanism,
Anabaptism.

To explain the Catholic Church’s response to the Reformation,
known as the Catholic Reformation or
Counter-Reformation.
-
To discuss political, economic, and social impact of the
Reformation and the consequent religious wars.
-
To discuss the causes, sites, and consequences of the religious
wars of the Reformation in France, the Netherlands, and the German states
of the Holy Roman Empire.

To discuss the factors that led to the European discovery
and conquest of other continents.

To describe the effects of world exploration, conquest, and
