Tips for Academic Success

Earn respect by your actions!  Show how capable you are!

 Attend school every day!

    • ...And attend each and every class!
    • Plan Doctor's appointments,vacations and work hours with school in mind
    • If you must miss school, get class notes and homework from a responsible friend
    • Know your class syllabus and what work will be required at what times
    • Remember: if you miss class you miss out on learning!

 Take responsibility for your learning!

    • Keep a planner and use the calendar to plan your time wisely
    • Do assignments the day they are given; most difficult first
    • Turn in all work neat, complete, & on time
    • Be thorough on homework & reading assignments
    • Missing class = missed work; find out what it is & get it done

 Use your resources!

    • Review & clarify your notes on same day taken
    • Re-read or check examples in your textbook
    • Form study groups with classmates
    • If unsure, ask questions in class to clarify information
    • Attend ELP for help with assignments
    • Go to the library after school
    • Attend after school tutorials

 Grades are earned!

    • Check course syllabus for requirements & grading policy
    • Instruction & assessment is based on CA State Standards

 High School is ONLY four years long!

    • Keep a positive learning attitude & focus on your future!
    • Remember that Everything Counts:
      • Attendance / Class Assignments / Homework/
      • Daily Participation / Quizzes, Tests, & Projects
    • Late work (if accepted) usually means a lower grade
    • ‘C’ or better grades = course credit & on track for graduation

 Make the most of every opportunity!

    • Accept the consequences of your choices
    • Get over bad decisions quickly
    • Recognize poor choices as learning opportunities
